Based in North East Sheffield and delivering services both locally and city wide, Chilypep works with young people aged 8-25 to enable them to meaningfully participate in decisions that affect their lives. The overall mission of the organisation is to work with children and young people to make the most of opportunities to influence and improve their lives and communities, through empowerment and participation in a challenging, fun and action packed way.
Chilypep established Sheffield Youth Council and the Care Experienced Council, and a number of youth forums including young people from BAMER communities, young people with learning disabilities and LBGT young people. We have recently established STAMP, the young people steering group for the Right Here Project on young people’s emotional well-being and mental health and VOYCE the young people’s steering group for the BIG Lottery Youth in Focus Young Carers Project.

It is difficult to break down our work into ‘service areas’ as we are about youth participation. We promote and actively develop youth participation within various strands of works and across geographic communities as well as communities of interest. I will expand on the two projects we are currently working on.

Right Here Project on young people’s emotional well-being (16-25 year olds), the project is about meeting the gap in services between children’s and adult mental health services and about improving all young people’s mental and emotional well-being. This is a partnership and Chilypep is the partner who delivers the youth participation element. We have established and continue to develop the young people’s steering group for the project, called STAMP. STAMP also develop and deliver their own projects and peer research, including work on anti-stigma.

VOYCE Project (Views of Young Carers Explained) is a project on the key transition periods for young carers, from primary to secondary school and from secondary school into further education or employment. This is a partnership project and Chilypep is the partner who delivers the youth participation element. We have established and continue to develop the young people’s steering group for the project, called VOYCE. VOYCE also develop and deliver their own projects and peer research
